Batucada Classes
Every Saturday at 10:00am at Espai Compàs. A time of shared rhythm with your children, leaving the week's stress behind.
Who can join
Open to everyone, from age 2
You don't need to be part of Espai Compàs. Interested families can start any month, as long as places are available.
The teacher
Ela, a life devoted to rhythm
Ela has lived surrounded by music since she was little. At 5 she started flamenco cajón, at 6 body percussion, and at 11 she entered the world of batucadas — and never left.
Today she leads three batucadas, teaches musical awareness, plays drums in the band "Anís", and travelled to Brazil to specialise in samba reggae, learning from the best teachers in the world.
How classes work
One hour of rhythm, in three moments
Set-up
The first 10 minutes we learn to place drums, mallets and belts independently: caring for the materials is part of the learning too.
Samba reggae
Most of the class is spent playing and going deeper into samba reggae rhythms, coordination and variations, adapted to the group's age.
Closing game
We put the materials away and close with a musical game related to rhythm and batucada.
Benefits
What batucada brings
Channel energy and emotions
Sound and movement help children release built-up tension and energy.
Accessible expression
Percussion is a form of expression available even before language fully develops.
Self-esteem and confidence
Playing in a group and seeing yourself improve builds confidence in young and old.
Family connection
Shared rhythm fosters emotional synchrony between adults and children.
Attention and auditory memory
Rhythm develops attention and memory, creating moments of connection and quality play.
Coordination and laterality
Improves hand, arm and body coordination, sense of rhythm and laterality.
Materials
First month, don't worry about a thing
We provide all the materials. From the second month, each participant needs their own belt and mallets. Later on, as the group grows, we'll gradually introduce personal instruments — always with plenty of notice.
And further ahead…
From the studio to the street
Over the weeks, a batucada becomes a team that builds bonds and shares good energy. The aim is to take the weekly work to the street — always voluntarily — at carnivals, festivals and fairs.
